Following the exhibitions in Tokyo and Shanghai, we will present 15 iconic furniture pieces that have played particularly significant roles throughout the history of ISHINOMAKI LABORATORY. The exhibition will be held in collaboration with dotcom.
During the exhibition, workshops for the “ISHINOMAKI BIRD KIT” will be held, open to both children and adults.
Rather than simply presenting furniture as finished products, ISHINOMAKI LABORATORY sees design as a way to create places where people gather, communicate, and share time together through making. In Copenhagen as well, the exhibition will become a space where community emerges through craftsmanship and conversation. The exhibition will also feature an interview film created with film director Nobu Arakawa, documenting voices from Ishinomaki — including local shop owners, community members, and people engaged in manufacturing, creative practices, business development, education, culture, and community-building. Through speakers by Copenhagen-based audio brand Dynaudio, founded in 1977, visitors will also be able to experience the atmosphere and sounds of Ishinomaki within the exhibition space.
What began as a small local initiative in Ishinomaki has continued to expand through connections with different regions and cultures around the world.
Even across changing environments, the spirit remains unchanged: carefully understanding local materials, relationships, and ways of living, and transforming them into meaningful objects.
Fifteen years on, ISHINOMAKI LABORATORY continues its journey together with local makers and communities around the world
