“RA BIRD” makes an iconic statement in the interior.
Carrying on Ishinomaki Laboratory’s tradition of objects inspired by animals, RA BIRD is a small bird-shaped object composed of just a few simple elements: an L-shaped metal bar, two triangular pieces of wood, and two screws.
Designed by Daniel Schofield, who works between London and Copenhagen, the piece reflects his approach to materials, function, and form. His work seeks to address everyday needs through objects that are simple, considered, and made to endure over time.
One of his well-known designs for Ishinomaki Laboratory is RIN DESK. The name “RIN” comes from the English word “lean,” referring to the way the two-legged desk rests simply against a wall to create a compact personal workspace. The element that meets the wall includes an opening for cables and also serves as a small ledge for displaying personal objects.
RIN DESK Designed by Daniel Schofield
For RA BIRD, Schofield drew from the metal bars used for the legs of Ishinomaki Laboratory products such as KOBO HIGH STOOL. The bar becomes the bird’s neck, while its distinctive form also gives the object its name.
The screw that holds the wooden beak in place appears almost like the bird’s eye, giving the minimal form its distinctive character.
Simple in construction yet full of expression, RA BIRD reflects Ishinomaki Laboratory’s approach to making: working with familiar materials and elements, using no more than necessary, and creating objects that balance practicality with a sense of playfulness.
Its carefully considered scale allows RA BIRD to feel at home, while keeping a distinct presence of its own.
Neither too small nor too large, its well-balanced scale gives RA BIRD an iconic presence in a wide range of interiors.
Available in three colors, RA BIRD can be selected to complement an interior, used as a subtle accent, or displayed in a group of different colors. Its presence can shift depending on how and where it is placed.
We hope RA BIRD finds a place in your space.
