This stool was designed for a workshop organized by the American furniture company Herman Miller, where furniture was made together with residents of temporary housing and elementary school children.
In temporary housing, there was a need for simple stools—for example, to step on when placing items in overhead storage or to sit on while putting on shoes at the entrance. This led to the creation of this compact and lightweight stool.
In 2026, to commemorate Ishinomaki Laboratory After 15 years, we have prepared a fully reproduced edition made with the same materials, manufacturing methods, and proportions as in 2011.
The leg structure is designed to be assembled without specialized equipment, and the seat height is set at 380 mm—lower than a typical stool—so that it feels familiar and comfortable for those who had been using beer crates as seating in temporary housing.
Available as a limited made-to-order item by reservation only until April 23, 2026.
